This is the first photograph of Paris Saint-Germain goalie Sergio Rico in hospital after being hit by a runaway horse in his native Spain in May, with teammate Neymar sending him a heartwarming message.
It appears to show the top footballer in his hospital bed in Sevilla, Spain, and holding his wife’s hand as they watch a movie on a tablet.
The snap was shared online by his wife Alba Silva, 29, on her Instagram stories, with the caption: “It’s not where but with whom.”
She was apparently implying that it did not matter that they were in a hospital, and all that mattered was that they were together.
Spanish media reported that Rico could be discharged from hospital this week, although his wife said: “We are still waiting for them to tell us something else, if they are going to discharge him during this week, or later… we are waiting.”
After finally being discharged from intensive care, Rico said a few days ago on social media: “I continue working on my recovery, which is getting better every day.”
And on Wednesday, 19th July, the PSG team posed for a snap with some of the players holding up Rico’s shirt in a show of support as they prepare for the 2023-2024 season.
Rico posted the snap on his Instagram and said in French: “Thank you everyone. I hope to be by your side soon.” (“Merci beaucoup a tous. J’espere etre a vos cotes rapidement.”)
Teammate Neymar then posted a heartwarming reply and a friendly jab saying in Spanish: “We miss you my friend. Be strong and come back quickly because I want to score goals against you.” (“Te echamos de menos amigo. Fuerza y vuelva rapido que te quiero meter goles.”)
The PSG footballer suffered an accident in El Rocio, when he was hit by a runaway horse, on 28th May and has been hospitalised since.
