A beefy fitness influencer has been rushed to hospital in Brazil after a bacterial infection he picked up in London caused him unbearable pain in his scrotum.
Bodybuilder Tiago Ribeiro de Lima, who goes by the name Tiago Toguro on social media, was rushed to a hospital in Sao Paulo on the night of 4th July.
Prior to being admitted, Tiago had taken to Twitter to tell his 384,200 followers about his discomfort.
He said at the time: “I’ve already scheduled a consultation with a urologist. I have extreme pain in my right testicle, man!
“I don’t know what’s happening to me, but it’s even making me nauseous. I’m scared, man. I don’t even know the scientific name for this thing, all I know is that it hurts a lot.
“If there are any doctors on Twitter, I searched on Google, theoretically it shouldn’t be anything serious, solvable without surgery, but there are a few things that can be worrisome, man!”
On 5th July, after his admission to hospital, an update was given to his seven million Instagram followers reading: “Toguro was admitted to Sao Camilo Hospital with severe pain.
“Several tests were conducted, and a bacterial infection was confirmed. He is currently hospitalised and taking medication. We are awaiting his progress.”
An update read: “He is currently sedated. During the early hours, he woke up without understanding what was happening and wanted to get up and leave the hospital.
“There was a minor issue; he woke up disoriented and speaking incoherently. The situation is delicate because the bacterial infection occurred in London.
“He had been experiencing symptoms for weeks but thought it was just normal pain since he spent a whole day riding a motorcycle in London.
“He thought it would pass on its own. However, yesterday an unbearable pain prompted him to schedule an appointment with a specialist.
“Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time, and he had to go to the emergency room, leading to his hospitalisation.
“He is being treated with medication, but there is no set date for his release from the hospital.
“It is also a challenging situation because he is very active and never stops for a minute.
“He believes he can go home, but the doctors have not given any indication of an early discharge.
“I ask that colleagues, acquaintances, friends, and fans send positive energy as the situation is not favourable.”
Earlier today (6th July), after coming to, the heavily-inked fitness fanatic shared a video of himself giving the thumbs-up from his hospital bed.
He wrote: “Thank you for all the positive messages I received, and to all the friends and colleagues who reached out to ask how I was doing.
“In today’s era, everything is about hype, numbers, and attention. Thankfully, I have built a solid presence on social media, and I avoid creating hype around misfortune, illness, or any temporary situation just for the sake of numbers.
“I have been on the internet for 15 years, and I don’t want to build my reputation on conflicts, gossip, or similar things.
“I have been allowed to continue my treatment at home, taking care of myself and following the prescribed medication.
“We still don’t know which bacteria it is, but I will take care of myself and keep you updated through my stories. Thank you to those who have been with me throughout this.”
This is not the first time Tiago has hit the headlines. He was last in the news after being charged with manslaughter on 4th May.
This was after he had fatally hit a motorcyclist while reversing on a road in Rio de Janeiro early on 4th March.
Witnesses told how the bodybuilder had gone the wrong way and then tried to reverse, hitting 30-year-old Jonny Vieira da Silva in the process.
Tiago claimed, however, that the biker had been speeding and that the collision had been the deceased man’s fault.
Shortly after being charged, he shared a video on Instagram showing him striking poses next to a puppy while an attractive young woman looked on.
He captioned the clip: “When the girl likes the dog and you start thinking she likes you.”
Local media did not reveal how the case evolved.
