The snaps show tattooed Edibe Bereket dressed in short shorts as she pouts and flaunts her ample cleavage in front of the Anitkabir complex in Ankara.

The complex includes the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who remains a much-revered figure among Turks of all stripes.

Ataturk, born in 1881, was a soldier, statesman, and reformer who founded the Republic of Turkey, serving as its first president from 1923 until his death in 1938.

The mausoleum containing his mortal remains receives thousands of visitors every day.

Edibe, 23, shared the series of snaps with her 103,000 Instagram followers on 4th July, captioning them: “In the most special place.”

But she immediately faced an outpouring of rage over her apparently disrespectful poses and her unbefitting outfit.

One social media user commented: “I carefully watch my every step from the moment I enter Anitkabir until the moment I leave.”

Another wrote: “Those who think this is secularism, republicanism, and modern living have not learned anything from Ataturk.”

A third opined: “Anyone can wear whatever they want in front of Anitkabir. But posing like this in front of a grave…”

Others, however, came to the influencer’s defence. One netizen asked: “You may not like her poses, but what motivates you incite the lynching of a woman?”

And another suggested: “I’m sure if Ataturk saw it, he wouldn’t want a woman to be lynched in a public area just because she’s wearing shorts.”

Edibe is also active on Twitter, where she says she is from Hatay Province and went to Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University.
