Down’s Syndrome Influencer ‘Super Chico’ Dies Aged Six
A young Instagram star with Down’s syndrome has died after having a cardiac arrest in his sleep.
Tragic Francisco Bombini – known online as ‘Super Chico’ – passed away in Bauru, Brazil, early on 6th February.
His mum, Daniela Guedes, said he appeared to be in good health when he went to bed.
But when his home healthcare nurse went to check on him at 2.30am, he had no discernible vital signs.
Daniela recalled: “She knocked on my bedroom door and said, ‘Dani, I can’t sense Chico’s signs.'”
Daniela rushed to Francisco’s room and gave him chest compressions.
On the way to hospital, the six-year-old was also given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
In hospital, medics gave Francisco adrenaline and intubated him.
But after 20 minutes, they could only deliver the family the devastating news that he had lost his fight.
Daniela told local media: “I asked myself why, but there’s no answer. I think it was time for him to go.
“I’m left with unknowns in my head. It still hasn’t sunk in. It’s an excruciating pain, and you feel powerless for not being able to do anything.”
Those who have sent condolence messages include singer Roberta Miranda and model Maju de Araujo, who also has Down’s syndrome.
Maju wrote: “The world sees the departure of one of the greatest superheroes it has ever known.
“Chico brought only joy and inspiration on how we should see our life and will forever be remembered that way.”
Francisco – who hit headlines across his native Brazil after beating COVID-19 twice – has since been buried in his home city.
He spent parts of his life in hospital due to kidney and heart problems and hypothyroidism and was even operated on when he was still inside his mother’s womb.
To celebrate his victories over his health problems, his mum would regularly dress him in superhero outfits, which is how his nickname ‘Super Chico’ came about.
She would post snaps of him dressed up to the Instagram account they shared, which had 340,000 followers at the time of writing.
His mum has paid tribute to “the purest smile in the entire universe”.
