A pretty Malaysian influencer with over 200,000 followers has been jailed for shoplifting broccoli from a supermarket.
Rumaisyah Yahya, 31, was jailed for one day and fined RM 400 (GBP 70) after being found guilty of stealing the broccoli as well as air freshener, soap and toothpaste worth RM 108 (GBP 18.70) from the supermarket.
The gorgeous influencer and yoga instructor, who has over 200,000 followers on Instagram alone, reportedly stole the goods ‘out of necessity’, according to her lawyer.
She went to the supermarket and picked up the items before putting them in her bag.
She then went to another part of the supermarket before exiting without paying.
She was then stopped by a security guard who discovered that she had shoplifted.
Lawyer Muhammad Rhastdan Abdul Wahab asked for the court’s leniency, saying that his client had no fixed income and was supporting a 65-year-old mother.
He also said that Yahya had shoplifted the items out of need and it was her first offence. He said: “The client repents and begs to be given a second chance.”
But Deputy Public Prosecutor Sheryn Yong Shi Yee asked the judge to make an example out of her, according to reports.
However, Magistrate Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin took the defence’s pleas into consideration and slapped Yahya with one day in prison and the fine after she pleaded guilty.
At the time of writing, Yahya had disabled her Instagram account.
