Young Couple Considering Vasectomy After Two Failed Contraceptive Methods Led To Two Miracle Babies

A young mum who became pregnant for a third time despite using an IUD and then a fourth time even after having her tubes tied said she and her husband are now considering a vasectomy to avoid future pregnancies.

Influencer Brenda Nathielle, 29, who has more than 164,000 Instagram followers, has described the baffling pregnancy as “lightning” that “struck twice”.

After conceiving two babies, she tried to prevent herself from having a third using an IUD coil.

But when that failed and she became pregnant for a third time, Brenda had an op to tie up her fallopian tubes to make sure she could not conceive again.

Incredibly, she had somehow gotten pregnant for a fourth time.

Now, she shared that she and her husband, Lucas Lopes, are thinking about him having a vasectomy as well to avoid having another child.

Lucas’ shocked reaction to the news of the miracle fourth pregnancy was captured in a video previously shared by Brenda.

Brenda filmed him as he clamped his head in his hands, still clutching the positive pregnancy test.

The footage then cuts to what appears to be Brenda, showing her fast-growing belly.

In addition to the shock, she shared that Lucas was concerned about the new dynamics of life with four children.

She told local media: “He went days without eating, unable to talk, very worried. I understand his reaction.

“Life isn’t a fairy tale. We, who have three children, know very well about the daily responsibilities.

“So, I imagine that at some point he will be able to deal with it because I also thought about it.”

Brenda’s doctor, obstetrician Marina Neves, said although the couple’s case is rare, it can still happen.

The doctor said: “I talked a lot with her.

“I’ve been doing tubal ligation for 15 years, and when I saw her message, I thought, ‘It can’t be her.’ But it can. Anything is possible.”

The obstetrician emphasised that the failure of a contraceptive method does not mean that there was an error on the part of the doctor or the hospital where the procedure was performed.

Neves said: “The IUD has a failure rate of less than one per cent. Even though it is inside the uterine cavity, it does not prevent all implantations.

“So, once in a while, we may encounter cases of pregnancy with the IUD.

“In relation to tubal ligation, it involves cutting the fallopian tubes, not just tying them. But the ovum [egg] is a very small cell, it can fall into the pelvic cavity and be carried by peritoneal fluid to the cut end.

“So, even with cutting, there is this possibility. The failure rate is 0.5 per cent or one in every 250.”

The couple is now considering whether Lucas should undergo a vasectomy to avoid “new shocks.” Despite this, they hope that the youngest one comes out healthy.

Brenda joked: “I am seven weeks pregnant, and now we are more relaxed and full of plans, like how to get the new family to fit in a car.”
