Smiling Plastic Surgeon Who Mutilated Beauty Queen Walks Free After Case Times Out

A plastic surgeon on trial for mutilating a Miss Russia beauty queen’s face has been freed despite a jail term after the case took so long to bring to trial it timed out.

Yulia Tarasevich, 44, paid GBP 3,000 for a facelift, a cosmetic correction of her eyelids and a mini-liposuction at a private clinic in Krasnodar, in southern Russia.

But after the ops, carried out by surgeons Khaled Omar and 45-year-old Andrei Komarov, Yulia was unable to close her eyes or even smile.

Evidence photos of the model taken after the ops show her disfigured with bulging eyes and massively hollowed-out cheeks.

Yulia was awarded RUB 5 million (GBP 49,000) in compensation in the civil part of the trial.

Komarov was sentenced to three years in prison after the surgery left Yulia disfigured and her face partially paralysed.

But now it has emerged that Komarov has been freed of punishment and will walk away free due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.

The Leninsky District Court of Krasnodar said in a statement obtained by CEN on 27th March: “Having examined the case materials, listened to the parties and assessed the evidence presented by them, the court came to the conclusion that the defendant’s guilt in committing the crime under Part 2 of Art. 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

“Taking into account the defendant’s non-admission of guilt, in accordance with the sanctions of the article, he was sentenced to restriction of freedom for a period of three years.

“Due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, Komarov was released from the imposed punishment.

“The verdict did not enter into legal force.”

Previously, it was reported that the doctor continued to practice in another city, according to local media.

Despite the trial scandal, Komarov moved nearly 500 miles away to Volgograd where he continued to operate on new patients.

Local media reported that he was still prolific on social media, sharing images of his new operations.

Yulia bitterly recalled coming face-to-face with Komarov across the courtroom saying after her payout: “I was paralysed and he was smiling.”

After the first botched op, Yulia went to a second clinic for corrective surgery but this failed too, with the model taking both clinics to court.

The mum-of-two told the civil court during the compensation hearing: “I came to them with a beautiful healthy face.”

Both surgeons denied any wrongdoing and say Yulia’s reaction to the surgery was caused by a “genetic condition”.

The civil court judges ruled that the procedures had caused “irreparable harm” to Yulia’s health, according to local media.

The Leninsky District Court of Krasnodar heard how she spent GBP 20,000 of her own money unsuccessfully trying to correct the surgery.

After the payout she reportedly said: “I don’t know why two people operated on me, but in my case it was the exact opposite of the saying ‘one head is good, but two is better’.

“Neither of the clinics even apologised to me for the fact that their doctors disfigured me.

“Neither of them offered me to do anything at their own expense that could really help me.

“I have already spent a lot of money on rehabilitation, but neither of them cares at all about this, or, indeed, about me, about my pain and suffering.

“Now these people who dare to call themselves doctors, who took the oath ‘Do no harm’, live in peace, sleep, drink, eat and travel to conferences, sharing their invaluable experience. And everything in their life is good.”
